If It Were Up To Me

I was watching a pretty bad movie this week (Man of the Year) and it got me thinking. So, in my post-movie stupor, I began to think about what I would do in the situation that the lead character, played by Robin Williams, found himself in by becoming President. So, after sleeping on it for a few days, I’ve come up with my list of what I would do if it were up to me.

1. I would stop playing games in Iraq and send in as many troops as necessary to win and win quickly. Once we win, I would put the Marshall Plan to work.

2. I would notify Iran, Al-Qaeda, or any other organization that should any act of terror be made against the USA, or any of her allies, that these nations (in the case of Al-Qaeda, I would target Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Syria just for the show of it) will lose one entire cities population after such attack. Then I would stick to it.

3. I would immediately recognize Israel’s right to build a fence separating itself from the Arabs.

4. Mandate that the Holocaust and the true story of the cause of World Wars I and II be taught in full detail to every student in 8th grade and above. Furthermore, teach about the U.S. involvement in slavery and how right-minded Americans fought to end it.

5. All illegal immigrants should be deported, or allowed to apply for citizenship. If the immigrant is a convicted felon, he/she should not be allowed citizenship. We can pay for it with all the money we are saving from the elections. (see #7)

6. State issued driver’s licenses are a privilege afforded to American citizens only. A foreigner who is here on a Visa, or someone in the process of applying for citizenship must apply for a temporary license.

7. Political parties may raise up to a maximum of $5 million dollars each for each election.

8. Every elected official, in every government position, may serve a 4-year-term and be subject to a confidence vote after his/her third year. If he/she wins the confidence vote, he/she may continue to serve a second term. If he/she loses the confidence vote, a new election must take place. After two terms, he/she may not run again.

9. The policy of the United States is English as the official language. Everything from road signs to street and building names must be in English. If you can’t speak the language, either learn it, or leave.

10. All government officials, and those vying to be, must be periodically tested for drug use. If it’s important for our athletes to be clean, it’s even more vital for our politicians.

Well, I know this list will ruffle some feathers and some of them may even anger some of you. But as I see it, this country is clearly going in the wrong direction. We have become a nation of appeasers and fat cats. We give in because it’s easy, not because it’s right. We are slowly being destroyed from within because we either don’t see the danger, or don’t care.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll be more optimistic. After all, it is the day after a Cowboy loss (albeit pre-season). Still, I am not very hopeful at this time. I hear people like Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama say the same stupid crap they’ve (the Democratic party) peddle for the last 30 years. Then I look at the Chicago Sun-Times and it’s as if Obama is the second coming of Jesus.

It’s all just too much.

I listen to talk show after talk show call President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Karl Rove every name in the book, comparing them to Hitler, Stalin or the devil themselves. Then, these same morons go and complain how no one is civil anymore.

I meet people on the street who have no idea who any of the Supreme Court justices are, but know every detail about Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s divorce proceedings.

If it were up to me, I would wake all of us up and realize that it’s not the government lying to you about the threat of nuclear Iran, or another Al-Qaeda attack. It’s those people who are so buried in the sand about how much they hate – hate Bush, hate pro-lifers, hate religion – that want us to believe that if we just sacrifice Israel, or just talk to Iran, or just allow 12 million illegals into our country – life will be good again. Just like it was when Bill Clinton was President.

It would not surprise me if the majority of Americans thought the hostage crisis started during the Reagan administration, or that during the 8 years Bill Clinton was President, terrorists didn’t bother us. I mean how could we expect any of our children to know the true story when they are told we are the cause of all evil by our professors?

That old saying about history repeating itself? Well, that can’t happen and do you know why? Because in today’s universities they won’t even teach history. In London, the public school system removed Holocaust studies because they felt it would insult the Islamofacists who claim it never happened.

That’s not repeating history, that’s denying it. Deny American history and there will be no America left to remember.

Do you know about the taxpayer-funded Khalil Gibran International Academy? This Brooklyn academy was created for Arab-language (read: Muslim) students and serves as any other city elementary school does, meaning it's paid for by your taxes. Since it's considered a public school, the cost of tuition is zero, as well. There is more on this horrible idea here.

The latest news about the school is courtesy of today's New York Post, who report that the principal, Dhabah “Debbie” Almontaser, is a board member and spokeswoman for an organization that has been selling T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Intifada NYC”.

Of course, like all "moderate" Muslims, Almontaser claims that the message is harmless. When questioned about it, she explained, “The word [intifada] basically means ’shaking off.’ That is the root word if you look it up in Arabic."

Furthermore, the principal explained, “I think it’s pretty much an opportunity for girls to express that they are part of New York City society . . . and shaking off oppression.”

Of course, these are the same people who tell us that Jihad simply means "struggle" - not "we want you all dead!"

How silly of me.

In today's society, were every word is judged by the "political correct police," we are slowly losing our sanity. Yet, we continue to accept the lies and distortions of those who want to completely subjugate, or exterminate us.

By using our language against us, Islamic fascists are destroying us from within, with barely a peep in resistance. I have my theories exactly when it was we began to surrender ourselves. But it no longer matters anymore. I mean, could you imagine a German school - a PUBLIC SCHOOL - opening up in New York City in 1942??? What if it were run by Nazi sympathizers?

What the hell is going on here? We don't deport illegals, we criminalize border patrol guards who merely do their jobs, we beat around the bush in Iraq, we make clandestine deals with the Saudis and we blame Israel for not giving back land it's already given back. Have we completely lost our minds?

On top of all of it, we are forced to listen to idiots such as John Edwards - who at least used to have style (but still no substance), Hillary Clinton - who has more faces than Mount Rushmore, Barack Obama - who is Tiger Woods without the talent or intelligence. And don't get me started on guys like Dennis Kucinich, Dick Durbin and Chris Dodd, shiver.

The saddest thing in America today is that the election process really prohibits any great candidate from running for President. Either you have to have a crystal-clear personal background, been a true war hero (sorry, Sen. Kerry) or saved us from terrorists. And even that isn't always enough. Seriously, why would anyone in their right mind want to be the President? Anyone who has been very successful in the real world wouldn't really want the stress or the pay cut.

No, I believe running for office today requires someone who is so arrogant and self-serving, petty and political and basically someone who has been bought off by special-interests. Unfortunately, I look at both parties the same way. As far as I'm concerned, from what I've seen, heard, watched and experienced, there is really only one candidate that stands a little ahead of the pack and that's only because he's a real leader.

Of course, it helps that the entire city of New York considers him their hero. But he comes with his own baggage as well.

Damn, if we don't wake up. we may never get out of this mess.

To write, or not to write - that is the question. Maybe it's because we are now fully immersed into the dog days of summer and it's just too hot to think. Well, I suppose y'all deserve an answer to "where the heck have I been." So, to answer that, I present the Top 10 reasons I haven't blogged in 10 days.

10. I was waiting to see who would hit a home run first, A-Rod (#500) or Barry Bonds (#755).

9. I was waiting for the trading deadline in baseball to pass.

8. I had to re-read the first 6 Harry Potter books again.

7. I was waiting to see if anyone noticed.

6. Old motto: "Writing is my life." New motto: "Are you ready for some football?"

The next five are actually serious...

5. My mother is gravely ill and not expected to survive much longer.

4. While there is so much to write about, I felt overwhelmed with everything else happening in my life.

3. I'm feeling very apathetic towards reading the local newspapers here in Chicago because the Sun-Times won't stop worshipping all things "Obama" and the Tribune does the same with Hillary.

2. Sometimes I just feel as if what I write doesn't matter.

1b. (TIE) I'm so sick of the hypocrisy from both political parties - especially the Democrats - that I'm just plain sick.

1a. (TIE) I'm equally sickened by Olmert and his destructive, unpopular and defeatest policies in Israel - and even more disgusted that Shimon Peres, the man responsible for spilling the most Jewish blood when he co-authored the disastrous Oslo Accords, has been elected President - although the position is mostly ceremonial. Regardless, it allows him a larger forum to express views that have been proven tremendously foolhardy and suicidal.

Look, I know the war in Iraq has had a number of problems, although the news has certanly improved, according the General Petraeus. I also feel that we have long-coddled the Suadis for far too long. But I still believe this is all beneficial for the long term and I believe as well that we must finish what we started. I am totally and completely against pulling our troops out now, or any other forced timetable.

Furthermore, with the 2008 election about 15 months away, I am already sick of all the candidates, save one. On the Democrats side, I fear for this country if we elect any one of those front-runners. Hillary Clinton??? Barack Obama??? John Edwards??? I can't take any of them seriously. They are all so remarkably flawed that the idea of one of them leading the country is just too hard to imagine.

As for the Republicans, they also scare me. In an interview this past week, Mitt Romney considered Hezbollah as a role-model for rebuilding Iraq. Of course he backtrack. But what the heck? It should make everyone of us wonder about his ability to govern. While Romney backtracked, Obama stuck his foot in his mouth so far, he can tie his shoes with his tounge. He may never recover from his two bone-headed statements ("I believe in sex-ed for kindergartners" and "I'd blow up Pakistan").

To me, the office of President is all about security - about who can keep us safe from harm. For me, for right now, I'm a Giuliani guy. I look at his record and, while I take issue with a few of his policies, I remember how he cleaned up crime in NY an how he kept the city from falling apart. I remember him refusing to allow Yasir Arafat in and I remember his speech at the annual AIPAC convention a few years later.

But it's still 15 months to go. It could be fun...
