The gospel according to Mathis

What kind of Judge makes up his own truths?

As the country braces for a battle in determining the judicial qualifications of the latest Supreme Court justice (except for the people at the New York Times, who appear to be more interested in whether Judge Roberts' son picked his nose before his adoption), one of the most influential judges (if you get your current news from the National Enquirer) has - in one bold stroke - articulated all that's wrong with the current justice system in America.

As a featured speaker at a civil rights march, Judge Greg Mathis (the Judge Mathis show) offered the brilliant quote:

"It is indeed criminal to steal an election and within two years run up a federal deficit of half-a-trillion dollars, send our young people over to Iraq to die for an unjust war. What they are doing is criminal."

This is wrong on so many levels. But mostly because it's a lie.

I'll explain again, for those who are still unaware as to how our election process works. In order to win the election, you need to win 270 electoral votes. Period. After counting and recounting, arguing and fighting, the fact remained that George Bush won the State of Florida.

The "fact" that the Supreme Court decided the election is also a lie. The Court only ruled that the latest recount could not be done in the time-frame required. The cause was due to the non-uniform way Florida's votes were cast. At the time, Bush lead Gore by 158 votes.

The argument that there may have been additional Gore votes in predominantly Democratic districts could not be considered without considering what additional votes Bush could have received in recounts of predominantly Republican districts.

But, I digress.

You would think a Judge should know better. But, alas, too many people regard the Constitution's laws to mean what they believe it should mean, instead of what it does mean.

In addition, Mathis increased the stupidity one step further, by stating:

"They shot and missed when they enslaved, segregated and oppressed our people.
They shot and missed when they stole the past two presidential elections. They
shot and missed when they denied our right to vote."

Uh, Judge...?

I believe it was a Republican president who freed his people. Furthermore, it was the Democrats who, led by Senator Robert Byrd (D-W.Va), who filibustered to kill the civil-rights bill in 1964.

Also, how exactly, did the Republicans "steal" the 2004 election? Even those who still believe that Gore should have won in 2000 - because he received the majority of popular votes, realize that there was no such issue in 2004.

And, who exactly, denied their right to vote?

Each district determines the number of voting booths needed. If there were not enough in certain districts, how is it the fault of the Republican party. Weren't these districts mostly Democrat?

Besides the fact that I live in the city of Chicago - which voted overwhelmingly for Kerry - and did not have any problem voting, how do people like Mathis figure that the vote was suppressed?

To Judge Mathis, as well as all the other "civil/human rights activists" (who are neither civil, nor right), please take a moment and listen to your own outrageous rhetoric. Surely, being intelligent enough to become a Judge/spokesperson makes you capable of recognizing the truth.

This includes you, Congresswoman Lee (D-Calif.), who said:

"The last two elections were stolen. They were stolen and so we will not rest
until we reclaim our democracy."

Reclaim from whom? The 62,040,606 people who made up the majority?
