I have a 12-year-old son who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome. AS is a persuasive development disorder that is often called "high-functioning" autism.

So it was with great interest when I read about Jason McElwain, The 17-year-old high school senior, from Greece, NY, a suburb of Rochester. McElwain, who is autistic, has been helping the team all year by running the clock, keeping stats and bringing the other players refreshments.

Then, in the last game of the season, his coach decided - with the game out of reach - to let McElwain put on a uniform and enter the game. He figured the boy earned the opportunity and wanted him to get a chance to participate in a real game.

And participate, he did.

In a shocking 4-minute span, the young man not only scored, but scored often. He hit on 6 3-point goals and finished with 20 points over all. As the game ended, he was carried off the court on his teammates' shoulders.

Wow. Now That's a great story.
