Reason #16 why I'm glad I no longer live in Michigan
This is unbelievable. In Flushing, Michigan, a town on the outskirts of Flint, a group of 5 women picketed the funeral of a soldier killed in Iraq. According to an article printed in Breitbart. com, "The fringe group of fire and brimstone Baptists from Kansas has been courting controversy for more than 15 years, traveling the country with their hateful signs and slogans. "
Sick. That's the word.
One thing I noticed from the article was a comment about the popularity (or lack thereof) for the war. The comment, "The protests come at a time when many Americans think the war in Iraq was a mistake but are anxious to show their support for the troops."The protests come at a time when many Americans think the war in Iraq was a mistake but are anxious to show their support for the troops," is not only unnecessary, it doesn't belong there.
Believe it or not, there was a time when news stories were about the actual facts. In this day and age, news stories have become both fact and spin. What used to be a noble position, today's journalist's have become not just reporters of events, but opinionators as well.
I'm tempted to say the fault lies with the leftists. It used to be that if you wanted commentary, you'd tune in to a talk-radio program. But if you wanted the facts, you'd watch the evening news. My theory is that as radio shows like Rush Limbaugh, Savage Nation and Michael Medved started to etch away at the mainstream media's thunder, the MSM started to counterattack the talk-jockeys.
Liberal radio, such as NPR and Air America, couldn't compete with them because elitists look down at the masses. If you've ever listened to Air America, You would know that the agenda of the left is the "anti-left". Rarely will you hear an original thought. Rarely will you hear a constructive idea. All that you hear is the same old, tried and true ranting about how Bush=Hitler, the Jews are evil, America is the enemy and no one cares about black people.
The group that protested at the funeral of a fallen soldier are a classic example of what is wrong with the left. These people (and I use that term with great trepidation), "the The fringe group of fire and brimstone Baptists from Kansas", also known as The Westboro Baptist Church, do not attempt to dialogue and debate the issues maturely. No, they simply do what most people learned not to do in kindergarten. They disrupted the memorial service of someone's father, husband and child in order to "show someone up.".
The selfishness of the act is a true indicator of what has become of the American Left. The conceit and high-brow narcissism of Hollywood is yet another example. In the 70's, Hollywood protested the use of DDT's in insecticides. The gallant victory they won has since caused countless more deaths from malaria than any caused by DDT.
Oh, but it doesn't matter. At least the deaths weren't of animals. As long as it's just human suffering it's okay. As Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), once said, "A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy." Gee, I'm glad I'm not her child. As long as the left remains in the throws of lunatics like Herr Newkirk, the value of human life will continue to sink their ship.
It's no wonder the left is so aligned with the "Palestinian" cause. Neither of them consider human life with any sanctity.
The irony of all of all of this is that the Westboro Baptist Church was critical of the fact that the armed forces admit homosexuals. In fact, their web address is godhatesfags.com. What this proves is that there are lunatic fringes on both sides of the coin.
And here lies the biggest difference between the Left and the Right: Those of us on the Right repudiate the awful actions of these idiots. Those on the Left applaud them. How else can you explain Hollywood's obsession with Fidel Castro and the "thankfully" late Yasser Arafat?
I realize this rant is all over the place, but when I read what happened at this funeral, I just blew up.
